This Month in Sunday School…

During October, we will be learning about individuality. God is one of a kind, with no beginning and no end. Everything God has created is unique and one of a kind, including people created in God’s image. Every person is an original reflection of God in how they love, care for others, imagine, create, and solve problems. To see how we can do this well, we should look to Jesus. Jesus showed us what it means to be created in God’s image in the way He loved all people and helped people feel like they had value—no matter who they were or what they had done. We can reflect this as we discover who we’re meant to be and live out the individuality God gave us.

October Memory Verse

Our 1st – 5th graders have the opportunity to learn a different Bible verse each month. Children can recite their verse in the elementary office before or after Sunday School. Kids who recite their verse successfully will get a sweet treat, and will have a chance to win a grand prize at the end of the school year!

October’s memory verse is: I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  ~Psalm 139:14

Fall Festival

Join us on Sunday, October 17, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm for an evening filled with family entertainment, food, and fun with the entire community. There will be FREE hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy, water, and cokes! The parking lot will be filled with games, inflatables, pony rides, face painting, and music. Admission is totally free, but we hope you will bring socks that we will be collecting for the homeless. There will also be an ice cream truck for you to purchase a sweet treat of your choice. Please join this amazing event in the heart of this community and invite your friends and neighbors to join us as well!

VHUMC Family Ministries invites all children to dress up and join us for Trunk-or-Treat on Wednesday, October 27, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Stop by the Fellowship Hall starting at 5:00 pm for dinner before heading out to the parking lot to trick or treat from trunk to trunk. And you can’t leave without a visit to the Photo Booth to commemorate this fun evening! All children must be supervised by an adult.

Register here if you are interested in hosting a “trunk.” For more information, contact Emily Boles, Director of Family Ministries, (eboles@vhumc.org / 769.0130).

Children’s Choir is Back!

Formerly known as Music & Arts, the VHUMC Children’s Choir invites any child K-5th grade to join us from 5:30 – 6:15 pm on Wednesday evenings directly following church dinner. We meet in the Fellowship Hall and move to separate rooms for age-appropriate instruction. During our time together children will learn what it means to use their God-given gifts to sing and praise the Lord. We also explore other arts activities as we seek to teach the whole child. Parents are welcome to stay and help if available. We will dismiss directly to Bible Pathfinders at 6:15 pm.

Bible Pathfinders

Our 1st – 5th graders meet on Wednesday nights from 6:15 – 7:00 on the elementary floor in room 221 for Bible Study. Bible Pathfinders is a great place for us to grow closer to God! We reinforce our Sunday School lessons by continuing to teach children to “engage” in their faith.

The 3 main points we highlight are:

Making Wise Choices
Building Strong Relationships
Developing Deeper Faith

We study the Bible, play games, participate in activities, crafts, have discussion and more! We would love your child to join us!

Email Jamie Meeks for more information.

Wednesday Night Dinner

We have dinner on Wednesday nights starting at 5:00 pm. We hope you will join us and others in a time of fellowship to enjoy a delicious meal prepared by Chef Charlie!

The cost is $7 per adult and $4 per child with a $25 family maximum. We encourage you to make a dinner reservation so we can prepare enough food. Click the link below or contact Margaret Flowers (mflowers@vhumc.org / 769-0112) to reserve your meals. You can prepay online or pay at the door.

Preemie Items Needed

The definition of S.O.S. is an urgent appeal for help. We have an urgent appeal for help! We have heard of a need in Georgia for sleep gowns, socks, sleep sacks and sound machines for underprivileged newborns that are born premature and are born with withdrawals. These children do not have any clothing whatsoever, so let’s shower them in clothing and show Christ’s love the best we can from VHUMC. All items can be dropped at the missions office near the church library.

Suggested sizes are premie or 0-3 months. Items needed are premie size socks, sleep gowns, day gowns, and sound machines. Thank you VHUMC for answering this S.O.S. call to be the hands and feet of Christ for those that are less fortunate.

Happy Birthday!
